Peter M. Walzer was named to “The Top 100” (Southern California) by Super Lawyers® for 2015

Peter was awarded the Spirit of CEB at the State Bar of California Annual Meeting (Long Beach, September 16, 2011) for his contribution to the education of attorneys in California.
The CEB made the following statement about Peter:
“Peter M. Walzer has been a valuable original contributing author of two important CEB family law publications over the past 14 years: California Marital Settlement and Other Family Law Agreements(2d ed Cal CEB 1997), including that publication’s third edition in 2005, and California Domestic Partnerships (Cal CEB 2005). He brought his expertise on premarital agreements to both these titles by providing cogent legal analysis, sample forms and practical advice. Since 1998, he has served as a panelist in at least 17 of CEB’s annual Family Law programs, including playing a formative role in establishing CEB’s annual Family Law Conference. Mr. Walzer also lectures regularly for the State Bar, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and other organizations, and he is on the Legal Education Committee of the ABA Family Law Section. Through his work with CEB and other contributions to the legal community as a practitioner and instructor, Mr. Walzer has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to continuing legal education and the furtherance of the legal profession.”
Chris will begin his term as Chair of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of California at the State Bar of California Annual Meeting.
Peter was named Fellow of the Year by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers at AAML’s Annual Meeting in Chicago on November 6, 2010. The Academy recognized Peter for his outstanding service to the organization. Consisting of 1,600 family lawyers in 50 states, AAML Fellows are recognized as preeminent family law practitioners with a high level of knowledge, skill and integrity.
Chris received the peer-review rating of AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell. Martindale-Hubbell is the facilitator of a peer review rating process. Ratings reflect the anonymous opinions of members of the Bar and the Judiciary. Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings fall into two categories – legal ability and general ethical standards. Peter was quoted in the October 29, 2010, issue of the Los Angeles Daily Journal on the reform of the family law courts in California by the state legislature.

On the December 2008 cover of Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine, Peter M. Walzer was featured with his article “Foreign Affairs” on the enforceability of foreign prenuptual agreements in California courts.
Christopher C. Melcher is a contributing author of Family Law Financial Discovery, a new book published by Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB). Mr. Melcher wrote the chapter on “Use of Experts as Consultants and Witnesses in Financial Discovery Process.”
The chapter provides step-by-step guidance on the use of financial experts in family law cases, including selecting and communicating with an expert, defining the expert’s role, exchanging expert witness information, conducting expert witness discovery, and paying the expert. In May 2008, Peter M. Walzer was appointed to serve on the Elkins Family Law Task Force, a new statewide panel whose charge is to propose measures to improve efficiency and fairness in family law proceedings and ensure access to justice for family law litigants. This task force was recommended by the California Supreme Court in Elkins v. Super. Ct. (Elkins) (2007) 41 Cal.4th 1337, 63 Cal.Rptr.3d 483, 163 P.3d 160. The court reviewed local rules that limited a litigants right to oral testimony in a family law trial. The court stated [F]amily law litigants should not be subjected to second-class status or deprived of access to justice . . . The same judicial resources and safeguards should be committed to a family law trial as are committed to other civil proceedings.
